Medical Assisting Jobs
Those who enter the field of medical assisting usually work in a doctor’s office helping them in all areas of medical practice. They help with the patients by preparing treatment and examination rooms, taking vital signs, giving injections, and assisting in laboratory operations. They also have administrative duties like maintaining patient records, billing, scheduling appointments, ordering supplies, and handling insurance claims. Medical assistants are different from registered nurses and LPNs (Licensed Practical Nurses) who are licensed and have to attend post-secondary schools and take particular exams.

Although you do not need a degree to enter the field of medical assisting, a certificate program or associate’s degree can increase your job opportunities. There are many traditional or online degree programs to choose from. Graduates of a medical assisting program will possess the skills to competently perform laboratory tasks that involve blood chemistry and urinalysis; clinical skills including x-ray, EKG, patient assisting, vital signs, injections; and administrative skills including computerized record keeping, typing, insurance procedures, charting and medical skills.
