Social Workers

People who are interested in pursuing a career in social work must feel a need to help people and must also have a very strong personality because they will often be witness to some of the greater injustices of life. Social Workers often specialize in a particular area such as children, disabilities, mental health, medical issues, or substance abuse. Many social workers work with local governments to ensure children have safe homes, others work with families of terminally ill patients, or help people who have addictions adjust to life.

The field of social work is projected to grow by 22% in the next seven years. You can expect to earn from $27,940 to $56,420, depending on where you specialize.

Education

The minimum education that is required to become a social worker is a four year degree, normally a bachelor’s in social work but a degree in psychology or sociology is also accepted. If you want to work in a clinical setting, you are required to earn a master’s in social work. Also many states require social workers to have a license. If you want to stay ahead of your peers, you can even go further and get a doctorate.
