Getting the Man in Your Life to Go Back To School!

Jan 07, 2011 8 Comments by

Studies have shown that when it comes to going back to school women are the more likely candidates. Why is that? Well, for one thing women are vastly smarter than men and always make better decisions. Kidding! (mostly). The truth is that returning to a campus after either being away for many years or having never gone in the first place is incredibly intimidating.

Not to overly generalize, but women tend to do what needs to be done regardless of how ridiculous they feel while doing it. Men are the same way with the only exception being that they shy away from potentially embarrassing situations that may hurt their pride.

When you’re sitting in a room of 18 year olds fresh out of high school that seem to know all the answers, it’s hard not to feel like the odd man out. Want an easy alternative? Try online education. It’s a safer environment where participation is not on a face-to-face basis. This gives the student, regardless of age or gender, more of a chance to go at their own pace without feeling any pressure from smarmy know-it-all teenagers.

The hard sell, ladies, is getting the guy in your life to understand that going back to school is the right thing to do. Sure, the results aren’t immediate, but once you have that degree in your hand the possibilities expand infinitely. I think the mom in the movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” said it best when she said “The men may be the head of the house, but the women are the neck and they can turn the head any way they want.”

Ladies, let’s use our powers of manipulation for good! I’m not saying give him an ultimatum, although saying he won’t get laid till he goes to college would probably be super effective. But plain old encouragement can work just as well. Knowing that he could really provide for the people he loves if he gets an education is a powerful motivator all on its own. But hearing how sexy you think a Bachelor Degree is can’t hurt any either, can it?

I’ve been trying to get my BF to go back to school to finish up his degree but he’s always “too busy”. Now that I am taking a couple of online classes he seems to be coming around a bit. We’ll see!

Holding out – Good idea! I wish my husband would go back to college. I may have to try being a bit pushier about it. I take my classes from my house and it is so annoying to have him in the other room doing nothing. He needs to get busy!!!

I’m currently back in school and loving it!

I have been trying to talk my grown son into going back to school so that he can provide a better life for his wife and kids. He has always said he didn’t have the time or the money. I recently complete an online course myself and he is beginning to think it’s a good idea. Can he get financial aid?

I have been thinking about going back to school for a long time, but have been so busy working to make a living that I did not have time. Now with the advent of online school I am thinking about it again. Is there a way to find out if I would be eligible for financial aid?

  6. Michale Roland says:

I just have to share this. My wife has been trying to get me to finish my degree for a while, but I did not feel that I had the time to go to school after working all day. This year she enrolled in some online classes and showed my how convenient it is to take this classes from home. We are not both getting our degrees, and can study online together. Technology is just great.

Hi Christian. There are many different forms of financial aid, but one of the most important forms to file is a FAFSA which will allow you to find out if you are eligible for federal grants and loans.

  8. Education Connection says:

Hey Kyra. Financial aid is available to many people. Your son should first file his FAFSA to see if he can get any federally funded financial aid. Then maybe try some other scholarship and grant programs.
