Top 10 Companies Young Professionals Want to Work For
Aspirations and dreams are what make up part of the typical college student brain, ya know, along with beer pong, texting and whether or not you can get away with falling asleep in class. But do they ever think about where to work after college?
A list of the top companies young professionals want to work for was recently released by Universum. 10,000 respondents ranked 100 different companies in terms of how appealing they are.
While some these companies were surprising to find on the list (Whole Foods Market, L’Oreal and Hilton Hotels), the ones who round out the top 10 are not the least bit surprising. And no, Facebook is not one of them.
10. Teach for America - It seems President Obama’s call for more teachers was heard. The TFA program offers several incentives for students looking to complete education degrees who agree and commit to teach in urban and rural public schools for two years.
9. NASA – Even though the final manned mission into space has passed many students are still hoping to experience a space odyssey in their future. In 2010 NASA was ranked 5th in the top companies to work for in the federal government.
8. CIA – The secretive agency is based in Virginia and supposedly only employs 20,000. But it’s the CIA and you should be the best of the best to get in; and having a degree in criminal justice might help out.
7. Microsoft – With annual revenue of over $65 billion and one of the world’s richest men as their leader this company surely has room for a few technology degree graduates.
6. FBI – It seems becoming a secret agent is quite popular among young professionals.
5. Amazon – Why not work where you shop right? In 2010 Amazon brought in over $34 billion which means they should be paying their employees well, or at least providing a good discount!
4. U.S Department of State – Ranked the 7th best company to work for in the federal government, the department of state has an internship program that will get you hands-on experience working in foreign affairs.
3. The Walk Disney Company – Job opportunities include capturing mice, being goofy, escaping evil queens and possibly finding prince charming.
2. Apple – Located in sunny California Apple has become almost everyone’s go-to tech company. Millions of iPads and iPhones have been sold in the past few months alone. Where you’re interested in computer science or web development, Apple might be the best place to work at.
