Proper legal requirements for contracts and the basics of contract preparation are outlined in this course. Topics covered include contract types, elements of a contract, breach of contract and consideration, duty to perform, damages and some remedies to breach. Students will also learn about small claims procedures, governmental regulations, U.C.C. and the Statute of Frauds.
By the end of this course, students will be able to explain types and basic elements of contracts and how a contract can be modified.
Students will know how to describe the requirements for contract formation, the roles of third parties in contracts and how a contract may be discharged and breached.
Participants will also be able to identify types of warranties, draft basic contracts and explain the basics of the Uniform Commercial Code, statutes of frauds and statutes of limitations.
