In this course, students will discuss the major grounds for the dismissal of a civil action as well as learn how to describe a motion for judgment on the pleadings and a summary judgment motion and when they are appropriate. Participants will learn how to draft effective responses to a motion for summary judgment as well as discuss the basics of removal practice and relate it to Federal Court civil jurisdiction. The class will also study the basics of substitution of parties and continuances.
Course Objectives
- By the end of this course, students will be able to identify and define the following key terms: pleading, motion, motion in Limine, motion for summary judgment, motion of dismiss, final judgment and interlocutory judgment.
