Artificial Intelligence Courses

In this course, students will learn about the history of artificial intelligence -- from how it began to major influences on the field as well as advances in the field. Participants will have an introduction to the general concepts of artificial intelligence, learn about expert systems, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms and other artificial intelligence techniques. The class will discuss the Turing Test and whether or not it is achievable.

If computers are to behave intelligently, there must be a way to store all this knowledge. What are some of the techniques used to achieve this? There are six major components of expert systems and how they interact with each other. Students will have the opportunity to examine an expert system in action.

Artificial Neural Networks are an attempt by programmers to approach the Turing test using the same methods used in biology. Learning occurs by a set of signals being sent between the “neurons” and a neural network is trained by being introduced to a number of inputs and attempted to meet the target output. Students will also discuss the Natural Language Processing. The class will learn about some of the techniques used and discuss some of the major challenges faced by artificial intelligence experts who are currently out in the field.

Robotics and artificial intelligence in marketing, medicine and other areas will also be discussed in this course.

Course Objectives

  • By the end of this course, students should be able to summarize the goals of artificial intelligence, describe the business applications for which artificial intelligence are suited, interpret artificial intelligence methods in existence and discuss the impact of advances in artificial intelligence in business and medicine.
