This course introduces students to the elementary concepts of information systems and technology. Students will explore the basic concepts of hardware, software, the internet and relevant IT professions and special emphasis is placed on today’s working environment.

In this course, students will examine some of the career options available in the Information Technology field. It is important for students to understand key concepts and vocabulary in order to succeed in this business. Students should know the major hardware components of a computer, the two main types of software and why most storage systems are either magnetic or optical.

Course Objectives

  • By the end of this course, students will have examined selected information technology professions. They will be able to describe the major hardware and systems software functions of a computer, associate selected software applications with their use in information technology professions as well as know basic Internet and World Wide Web technologies.
