This course teaches students how to build dynamic websites in the Windows environment using the latest Visual Studio tools and Active Server Pages technology. Participants will use advanced Visual Basic programming techniques for building web applications and learn how to write, debug, compile and execute ASP WEB applications. During this course, students focus on building well-engineered and maintainable websites to meet business and programming standards.
By the end of this course, students will be able to install the latest Visual Studio tools and configure an XP machine to run IIS as well as build and execute ASP web projects from the visual Studio in Visual Basic.
Students will use debugging techniques to determine the cause of errors and be able to use server controls in a web form. They will also use the web.config file to set session state options and use a cookie or a query string to pass information from one page to another.
Upon completion, students will be able to describe the use of these ADO.NET components: data adapter, command, connection, data reader, dataset, data table, use a SQL data source to get the data that a web application requires as well as use a GridView control with bound fields to format and display the data in a data source.
This course also introduces students to the ASP programming model and the DotNet framework. It is important for students to stay up-to-date on these tools because they are always changing and evolving. The class will focus on ASP 2.0 and the 2.0 version of the frameworks and students are responsible for having the parts they need installed or updated in their computer for the course.
Web programming is very complex and depends on many pieces being available and working correctly.
ASP.NET is a set of web application development technologies marketed by Microsoft and programmers can use it to build dynamic websites, web applications and XML web services. It is part of Microsoft's .NET platform.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to identify and define the following concepts: Active Server Pages for dotnet (ASP.NET), Internet Information Services (IIS). Visual Studio, Server Side scripting and Visual Basic .NET.
