This course was designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills to successfully install, configure, test and secure a web server. Students must already have a basic knowledge of how to administer the basic server operating system.

Every time an individual installs a web server, they gain experience and a better understanding of what components combine to make up a web server. The web server will primarily use the HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) to communicate with the user’s web browser.

Web servers support the HTTP protocol as the primary communication method people use to communicate with the web server. All web servers have common features that allow them to communicate and interact with other web browsers. This includes supporting the HTTP protocol, default documents, error messages for HTTP errors and logging options.

Being able to configure a web site is a critical skill for any web server administrator. The web server installation program configures the website to a common configuration. With the security challenges one faces daily on the Internet, it is important for the web server administrator to know how to update the configurations of a website to minimize the impact of the latest threats against the site.

Course Objectives

  • By the end of this course, students will be able to explain web server management. They will have the skills needed in order to configure new websites and virtual directories on various types of web servers and know how to configure web servers to work with various types of interactive web pages and databases. They will then implement appropriate security configurations on web servers.
