A degree in accounting information management will prepare students in both accounting and management principles. An accounting manager is a fusion of the qualities of a good accountant and a good leader, so an understanding of both sets of skills will be necessary. As an accountant, the program will train students in the fundamental mathematical, legal, and economic principles of the trade. Accountant-specific classes in reporting methods, processing procedures, and creating financial statements will also be taught along with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the International Accounting Standards (IAS). When it comes to the managerial aspects, good leadership skills and presentation abilities will become important. The program offers an internal auditing specialty as part of the degree. This specialty prepares students to conduct audits into for-profit companies as a means of helping businesses run less expensively and more efficiently.
With an internal auditing specialty within the accounting information management bachelor’s of business administration, students will be prepared to become leaders in internal auditing for many businesses. As an internal auditor, graduates will have the opportunity to closely scrutinize the financial operations and business practices of various companies so as to suggest improvements to workflow and profit generation. A career in internal auditing offers the chance to work with large businesses from an objective standpoint of aiding business profitability and management.
