A Bachelor’s degree in Applied Economics is a four year degree program that requires a broad base in liberal arts while providing major coursework in economics and business. Some topics students will focus on include: mathematics, science, politics, English, public finance, money and banking, comparative economic systems, markets, and business law. Students will learn to think critically about business economic systems and employ creative problem solving when faced with challenging projects. Students will engage in economic policy debates and, therefore, it is necessary for students to exhibit refined communication abilities when debating and working with their peers and faculty. Additionally, students must be proficient in writing clearly and be comfortable with public speaking. A bachelor’s degree in applied economics prepares students for graduate level work in similar fields should students decide to further their educations and go on to pursue their master’s degree or perform doctoral work. Students will receive a solid foundation in understanding how business, markets, and financial institutions operate and this knowledge will prepare them for future careers in sales, banking, government, real estate, management, or insurance. A high school diploma is required for admission to this degree program and students should reflect interest in furthering their education and understanding of economics.
