An Associate of Arts in Fashion is a degree program that prepares students for many different types of careers within the fashion industry upon graduation. Students receive an education in garment construction as well as the latest in technology and computer software programs. Students pursuing an Associate of Arts in Fashion are encouraged to be innovative and creative in their hands-on projects. They must also be able to perform collaborative work and communicate well with their peers and faculty members. Students will learn about current market demands and design strategies in addition to organizing public relations events and promotional fashion shows. Technology in the form of computers is used continually as a means of creating new designs, communicating with buyers and purchasing agents, and in organizing patterns. Students even utilize steam irons, industrial sewing machines and sergers, drafting tables, and custom dress forms. An Associate of Arts in Fashion stresses aesthetics along with fashion sketching, design skills, draping, pattern making, sewing, promotion, presentation, and forecasting. Construction of sample garments, selecting materials and fabrics, and cutting patterns are all part of this education curriculum. Strong technical abilities are honed in addition to all of the industry standards and specifications that must be met.
