Bachelor of Art in Social Science

Social science is a wide, multi-disciplinary field of study that focuses on humans and societies. This degree often includes history and political science since the interplay between the two is vital for the understanding of society. Students can hope to gain a familiarity with the basic forces at work between human beings and culture such as economics, psychology, value systems, and education. Classes may require learning of notable thinkers in the field whose views will be studied and analyzed. Case studies will also often be analyzed, and a scientific approach to research and study will often be used as its methodologies are important for much of the work.

Many careers are possible with a bachelor of art in social science and each depends upon how a student wishes to pursue their studies. Those that are mainly interested in human services will find the degree a great way to get involved in social work, counseling, government, and education. Other more scientific realms of study or career paths are also possible, some of which include anthropology, psychology, sociology, history, or political science. The potential for earnings will vary according to the profession. Political scientists tend to make more than historians and historians tend to make more than sociologists according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
