Few degrees will prepare students for business as properly as an emphasis in accounting and financial management within a bachelor of business administration. Accounting and financial management cover many important areas of business including sound fiscal understanding, legal frameworks, and quantitative measures for recording business activity. Mathematical reasoning and good analytical skills will be required of students to successfully navigate the degree and perform well. Along with general business courses such as economics, management principles, organizational principles, and leadership capabilities, a specialization in accounting and financial management will prepare students for most business situations that can be encountered in the for-profit world of commerce.
A bachelor of business administration with an emphasis in accounting and financial management will create many opportunities for graduates. The financial services industry is one such place of opportunity and can include financial management, financial advisory services, or financial analytics. On the accounting side, the program’s instruction in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) may help prepare graduates to obtain a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or other licensure needed to operate as an accountant either from within an existing business, or as an independent business owner selling tax or consulting services. Auditing is also a great career with opportunities both in for-profit institutions and within government.
