The hospitality industry is much more varied than many people know. Not only is the hospitality industry involved in hotel and restaurant management, but also casino management, event planning and management, and tourism. Each of these areas is an individualized area of study within a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration – Hospitality Management degree. While these main areas of study do focus on hospitality industries that are well known, hospitality management also involves numerous other areas of business that must conduct meetings and special events, like hospitals or other large corporations that host conventions or meetings. While students will complete core business administration coursework in accounting, economics, and management, they will also be required to complete a required number of hours in their hospitality area of specialty. Some programs require some type of internship in the industry for a semester. After graduation, students could be prepared to enter entry-level management jobs in their field of specialty, working under the guidance of experienced managers. The increasing global world view and economy is creating a need for more hospitality industry professionals with specialized training and education in the field, especially as economies are beginning to improve and tourism rates begin to increase.
