Bachelor of Science-Accounting/Finance

To be successful in business, one must learn to speak its language. Business is understood through the collection of rules, regulations, laws, and concepts that define and measure its interactions. A degree in accounting and finance will ensure that those aspects are learned and understood. Rules and laws involve contract law, the differences between business entities and models, and their boundaries. Regulations and laws also define boundaries, and can also include the tax liabilities and reporting requirements necessary to comply with them. Business concepts may include the particulars of commerce, economic activity, decision-making, trend analysis, and many other aspects related to proper business functioning. Accounting and finance provide the foundations through which to understand financial interactions and will provide the rigor and mathematics necessary to understand sound business decisions.

With a degree in accounting and finance, graduates will be qualified for many opportunities. With the proper licensure, such as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, graduates will be able to practice as qualified accountants within businesses or on their own as independent contractors. Within organizations, there are opportunities in accounting management, auditing, and financial analysis. In for-profit organizations, graduates may choose the path of the internal auditor, tasked with analyzing business operations according to good accounting principles. But there are opportunities in governments as well for auditors, treasurers, or financial controllers.
