A bachelor of science in information technology and project management meets at the cross-section between information’s related mathematical underpinnings and management’s inherent leadership and organizational finesse. Mathematical understanding and analysis is required to view projects in terms of technological problems with cost estimations and proper system development. But an understanding in communications, leadership, and scope appraisal can be just as important. The information technology side of the degree could give students a robust education in matters of computer programming, database administration, networking, and information technology principles. But the project management specialization may involve understanding and managing human interactions.
With a degree in information technology and a concentration in project management, graduates could be able to choose between technical careers and management-based careers. On the technical side, graduates may be qualified to work as network administrators, IT administrators, and in cost estimation within financial management for businesses and organizations. Graduates could also pursue careers in management such as a project management, where all the techniques learned throughout the degree may be brought to bear on the problem of organizing team efforts through to the successful completion of various goals. Quality assurance careers may utilize many of the techniques learned as well, requiring both finesse and technical understandings. Management within IT departments may also be a natural fit for graduates.
