The PsyD specialization in counseling psychology prepares learners to pursue diverse career paths within our changing society. Because this specialization is ultimately designed for state licensure eligibility* as a counseling psychologist, it is a very rigorous program that requires course work, residency, and field training experience. Doctoral graduates typically intend to seek a license to practice professional psychology and must be familiar with the licensure requirements of their state psychology boards. In addition to providing counseling services to individuals and groups, graduates will be prepared to work with non-profit organizations, to teach at the undergraduate or graduate level, to conduct program evaluations, to offer consulting services, and to provide supervision of other mental health professionals.
At Capella we encourage you to follow your professional passion in your doctoral studies. During preparation of your comprehensives and research, and in choosing the topic for your dissertation, faculty and mentors maintain close contact to provide individualized guidance.
