Professional Development for Teachers Degrees

This program is offered online to all teachers currently teaching in grades K through 12 who are interested in fulfilling their state recertification requirements. All related coursework involves classroom participation so it is required that participants are currently teaching in one of these grades.

Every course in this program incorporates job-embedded practices with follow-up activities. These activities were created to help teachers change existing behaviors, master subject competencies and focus on making a positive impact in their own students' lives.

Because this class is online, students collaborate with each other through online teams. This includes examining data and implementing research-based instructional strategies to improve their own performance as educators. Participants will be asked to reflect on their own career development and what they can do to better enrich their students. Courses will also cover the No Child Left Behind Act and discuss the ever-changing state and federal requirements for teachers around the country.

Program Objective

  • By the end of this program, teachers will have a better understanding of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) federal mandate which requires all public school teachers to be "highly qualified" and demonstrate subject matter competency. This program also assists in an individual’s pursuit of a Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning -- which can lead to potential career advancement and salary increases depending on an individual's school district requirements.
