The Foundation in Business runs for two semesters (9 months) and is intended as an alternative fast track to A-levels. It is particularly suited to students who wish to better prepare themselves for undergraduate studies in terms of subject content and assessment. On successful completion of the course students can progress to an undergraduate Business degree. This programme is recognised by over 30 UK universities and successful students are guaranteed a place on our University of Wales BA (Hons) Degree course.

The Foundation in Business studies is designed to introduce students to the basic objectives behind business, how these objectives are pursued, the various business functions and organisational structures, and the environment within which the business is conducted. The syllabus aims to make you the candidate examine business in a critical manner, enabling students to evaluate both favourable and unfavourable aspects of business in today’s society.

There are three subjects covered by the foundation in Business: Accounting, Business Studies and Economics.

In part one you will study Business organisations, objectives and strategies, management theories and marketing. In part two, you will study financial accounting and the purpose and value of management accounting.

Part three involves the study of Economics including micro- and macroeconomics, the demand and supply chain and revenue and profit maximisation.

You will be provided with textbooks for Accounting, Economics, Business Studies and on study skills. These books complement each other. There are extensive questions and answers in the textbooks on these subjects that will help improve your understanding.
