The Geriatric Care Management Certificate program was created for individuals interested in becoming geriatric care managers for the elderly. There is a critical need for geriatric care managers in the health care system today due to several factors: an increase in the elderly population, the rising price of health care and inadequate long-term care support systems. This course gives the health care professional the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in this fast-growing field. Topics covered include the impact of the aging process on an individual, their family, the community and the health care system. It also includes aspects of the legal, ethical and business components of a successful geriatric care management practice and making sure managers know how to provide optimal quality of life and care for their aging clients.Graduates may work with their elderly clients and their families, government agencies, attorneys, insurance companies, health providers and public and private health care organizations.
