Nursing and Health Science Certificate Program

This certificate program trains interested students for employment in home health agencies and health care facilities. It gives students the basic tools and knowledge necessary to provide personal and nursing care for patients of all ages and to work under the supervision of nursing and medical staff.

Graduates learn to perform a variety of tasks and walk away with a better understanding of the importance of meeting the emotional needs of a patient. This program may be used as a stepping-stone on the track to an associate’s degree, which, in turn, can lead to a career as a professional nurse.

By the end of this program, students will know how to apply the nursing process to restorative, rehabilitative, preventive and palliative care delivery and apply core knowledge and clinical competencies and ethical behaviors in the delivery of nursing care to individuals and groups across the life span.

Graduates will use team and leadership skills to provide patient care, direct patient care and serve as a member of the nursing profession while applying evidence-based care in clinical practice and utilizing health care technologies in the delivery of nursing care.

Graduates will also know how to explain the importance of ethical and legal considerations in the clinical practice of nursing and apply communication and problem-solving strategies for nursing practice in a diverse global environment.

Upon completion of this certificate program, graduates will be able to describe the role of nurses in the improvement of the health care delivery system and the formulation of health policy and analyze their own professional growth and progress.
