A bachelor’s degree in interactive multimedia is great for those that are looking to combine the skills of an artist with technological proficiency. Interactive multimedia is an interdisciplinary avenue that involves acquiring skills in many areas such as 3-D modeling, animation, web design, web development, software development, audio technology, digital image manipulation, and digital illustration. Despite its interdisciplinary nature, it is often useful for students undergoing the degree to choose a specialization that will receive additional focus and in which the student will become an expert. Students will also learn the value of working in teams during hands-on projects and while being instructed by experienced professionals.

There are many options for fields of work with such a degree including graphic design, graphic art, digital game development, web design, web development, animation, or special effects art. Although competition is high, the Bureau of Labor Statistics expects multi-media artists and animators to enjoy some of the fastest growth in jobs until at least 2014. Salary.com also predicts that income for webmasters and web designers have median salaries that exceed $60,000*.
