There are four primary sources of law in America: statutory law, administrative law, case law and constitutional law. In this course, students will learn to identify the different types of law and how to classify a particular client’s case. Each case will fall into an area of the law, such as family law, corporate law, collections, bankruptcy law, torts or criminal law. Once someone knows how to identify the different areas of law he or she must also know how to identify the issues of a particular case. Depending on the type of law, different forms, documents and legal papers must be prepared, filled out and filed. Bringing a case to federal or state court also helps determine what type of law one will be dealing with.
