Master of Arts in Military History

The study of history leads us to understanding not only what has happened in the past, but also gives us knowledge to prevent mistakes in the future as well as helping us repeat successful ventures. The study of military history is a unique specialty in history education, and educators, military personnel, military buffs, and people who wish to gain analytical thinking skills may want to consider seeking a Master of Arts in Military History. People who enroll in a Master of Arts in Military History can expect to gain knowledge in a number of historical areas relating to the military including: warfare and its effect on culture, society, and economics, as well as its effect on international relations. In addition to these broad areas of knowledge, students can also expect to study essential details related to the military and war, including weaponry, battlefield strategy, military and political doctrine, and military leadership. An M.A. in Military History will generally take at least 18 months to two years to complete. Students can expect to participate in courses that require a great deal of reading and analysis, as well as numerous analytical papers relating to particular areas of study. Students can choose from programs that may or may not require a thesis, but all will require high levels of study and analytical thinking.
