Psychology Doctorate

Objectives:

Objectives of the Doctor of Psychology Program:

The Doctor of Psychology program is for individuals who are interested in advancing their knowledge of clinical issues in psychology and developing the practical application of this knowledge to their respective professions. Further, the PsyD program will:

  • Provide the educational basis for exploring personal readiness to become an integral participant in the field of psychology;
  • Enable professionals to further develop their careers with advanced knowledge in psychology;
  • Enable comprehension of current psychological literature to demonstrate ones competence in applying this knowledge to current practices in psychology; and
  • Provide the educational background to apply for licensure as a clinical psychologist.

Admission Requirements:

Admission to the doctoral programs requires a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in the field of study or related field from an appropriately approved or accredited institution. The professional doctorate degrees (PsyD) require a total of 72 graduate semester units beyond the Bachelor's degree or its equivalent or the completion of 42 graduate semester units beyond the Master's degree. If coursework is not in the discipline of the degree being sought or if graduate units have not been completed prior to enrollment, additional graduate level fundamental courses may be required. To enable the evaluation of prior college work, official transcripts must be provided to the University.

The University may accept a maximum of 30 graduate semester units in transfer for graduate coursework completed at an appropriately approved or accredited institution. Graduate courses for which a grade of "B" or higher was earned will be considered for transfer. If the coursework is not in a discipline in the discipline of the degree being sought, additional graduate level fundamental courses may be required. To enable the evaluation of prior college work, official transcripts must be provided to the University.
