The New School Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages with a concentration in Teaching (MATESOL) is designed to raise the standards of trained professionals in the TESOL field and consequently to raise the standards of the profession itself. People in all professions and from all walks of life want to learn English, so there are myriad teaching opportunities in language schools, private organizations and businesses, public schools, colleges, and universities all over the world.
The goal of the concentration in Teaching is to give people the most practical, useful training possible. The emphasis is on student-centered, content-based, communicative teaching and learning. With this concentration students will be well prepared to teach ESL or EFL at all levels, and they will have the tools to reflect on their teaching and do what is necessary to continue to learn and improve. The MA in Teaching English requires 30 credit hours to complete.
