Funding for Military Friendly Colleges in Georgia
There are many military friendly colleges in Georgia. According to the VA, in 2017, 291 Georgia schools got Post 9/11 GI bill funds for over 23,869 students totaling over $150 million dollars. If eligible, all of these may be used to help fund a college education.

All of the data cited from the National Center for Education Statistics. Many of these schools take part in the Yellow Ribbon Program, a part of the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Under the Yellow Ribbon Program, the colleges and the VA pay the tuition and mandatory fees not paid for by the GI Bill.
Strayer University offers online academic programs and is a Yellow Ribbon Program participant. They’re approved by the Veterans Administration to accept and process your VA benefits too.
As a service member, you have access to a Veteran Support Team who could guide you every step of the way, plus the opportunity to learn how you could be able to save on tuition.
One ways is Strayer Military Scholarship. The scholarship, when combined with your military tuition assistance, might cover up to 100% of your undergraduate tuition and a majority of your graduate tuition. Several military scholarships may also be available to eligible spouses of those currently serving in the military. Also, Strayer evaluates your military training, certifications, CLEP/DANTES and prior college to award transfer credit for qualifying life experiences.

UNG’s resources for Veterans include help with financial aid and admissions questions. There is also a Student Veterans organization which aims to foster a sense of community and connection with your peer veterans and other support services.
Career services for UNG students are another feature. This support exists to help you as a student veteran to make the transition from military to college, and from college to the workforce.
Georgia State University supports military connected
students in a few ways. That includes outreach programs and services to meet
the needs and challenges of the military community. The school also fosters community partnerships
and organizations that support student veterans. And, GSU participates in the
Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) program.
As a part of the Yellow Ribbon Program, GSU offers
up to 30 students funding. They could get an unlimited amount of grant funds each,
per year.
Plus, GSU offers credit for military training.
It has an 82% full time student retention rate and an 86% part time rate for students
who get military benefits.
Kennesaw State University’s Military and Veteran Services is
fully staffed by experienced veterans. It offers help to service members,
veterans, and dependents. And, you could join the Student Veterans Club. It
provides a network of support to military veterans, their families, and
civilian supporters.
Kennesaw State is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program.
It offers up to 10 students a grant of $1,000 per year, each.
Georgia Southern University is home to a Military Resource
Center. This offers a place to get connected, relax, study, and meet with other
service members. TEAM EAGLE is the Military and Veteran Success Network of
Georgia Southern University. And, the Eagle Nest Lounge Area has a lot to
offer. Stop by for complimentary coffee and snacks. There’s also a television
and gaming system to relax between classes.
Plus, GSU participates in the Green Zone Program. This is a
campus wide program that offers locations recognized by Veterans as a safe
place.

GSU offers credit for military training and experience.
Retention rates for students receiving military education benefits are 79% for full
time students and 40% for part time students.
The University of Georgia offers priority registration for military students who submit proof of service. And, the University’s Student Veterans Resource Center (SVRC) offers support and advocacy.
The University of Georgia is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program. 5 graduate and doctoral students could get an award of up to $5,000 each, per year. 2 Juris Doctor graduate students at the School of Law could get an award of up to $5,000 each, per year. And, the Terry College of Business offers grad students a max of 2 grants of up to $9,000 each, per year.
The University offers credit for military training. Retention rates for students receiving military benefits are 88% for full time students and 100% for part time students.
Augusta University is home to a Green Zone Program. This is
a campus wide initiative providing locations recognized by Veterans as a safe
place. This can help with the transition from military to college life.
Augusta University participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program.
And, it has other tuition help available for veterans and active duty military.
The University offers credit for military
training. Retention rates for students receiving military benefits are 71% for full
time students and 77% for part time students.
The Georgia Institute of Technology’s Veterans Services can
help with the college journey. That includes processing forms for educational
benefits, advising veteran students, and certifying enrollment with Veterans

The Georgia Institute of Technology is a participant in the
Yellow Ribbon Program. It offers up to 40 students an amount of up to $6,435 in
grants per year, each.
Georgia Tech offers service members credit for military
experience. The retention rate for students receiving military education
benefits is 100% for full time students.
At Emory University is our last military friendly college in Georgia. Veterans and their families are a valued and vital part of the community. The school has a close relationship with the Atlanta VA Medical Center. This helps ensure patient-centered care for its many enrolled Veterans. And, Emory is one of six nursing schools selected for the VA Nursing Academic Partnership (VANAP) program. This program is through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Emory participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program. It offers grants
to varying numbers of students per division / school. Amounts range from $2,500
to $20,000 each, per year.
Emory offers academic credit for learning acquired in the
military. The retention rate for students receiving military education benefits
is 100% for full time students.
American InterContinental University Atlanta is home a Veterans
Center. This is a dedicated space on campus for all active-duty military and
veteran students and alumni. And, AIU Atlanta has a chapter of the Student
Veterans of American (SVA) on campus.
AIU Atlanta is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program.
It offers an unlimited number of students an unlimited amount in grants per
year, each.
AIU offers credit for military training. The retention
rate for students who get military benefits is 86% for full time students.
Columbus State University has both a traditional campus and
online courses. And, it helps military, family members, and veterans begin the
college journey. That includes understanding and using their tuition help and
veterans’ benefits.
Columbus State participates in the Green Zone Program. This
is a campus wide program that offers “safe places” for Veterans. This
could help aid in the transition to college life.
The University participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program. It
offers 15 students up to $1,000 each, per year.
Veterans are eligible for transfer credit for military
training. The retention rates for students receiving military education
benefits are 80% for full time students and 68% for part time students.
The Art Institute of Atlanta may offer many military
education benefits. It also offers scholarship opportunities to qualifying
military and veteran students. For instance, there’s a military tuition
scholarship of 10% to eligible students. They may include Veterans, Active
Duty, and Drilling members of the Reserve and National Guard. Spouses of Active
Duty service members may also be eligible.
As a part of the Yellow Ribbon Program, The
Art Institute of Atlanta offers an unlimited number of students an
unlimited amount in grants per year, each.
The Art Institute offers credit for military
training. The Institute has an 89% full time student retention rate for students
who get military benefits. The part time rate is 67%.
Middle Georgia State University faculty and staff welcome all active duty and veteran students. The University participates in the Green Zone Program which, offers safe places around campus. This helps veterans transition to college life.
Middle Georgia State participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program.
It offers up to 4 students a $500 max contribution per year, each.
