There are many military friendly colleges in Hawaii. According to the VA, in 2017, 50 Hawaii schools received Post 9/11 GI bill funds for over 7,100 students totaling over $52 million dollars.

There are six active programs offering benefits for veterans’ education. If eligible, all of these may be used to help fund a college education.

All of the data cited from the National Center for Education Statistics. Many of these schools take part in the Yellow Ribbon Program, a part of the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Honolulu Community College welcomes student veterans. There’s a Veteran’s Resource Center (VRC) which is for service members and their dependents. VRC staff members work to help explain the diverse rights and benefits that prior service members have earned for themselves and their families.

As a student, you could VRC’s Lending Library system to access books needed for class studies and homework. Desktop and laptop computers are also available for the general use of students. Whether to do schoolwork and research or check emails and other VA resources. You could also come in and relax between classes or talk with VRC staff and other students.

The VRC also works with the Veterans Integration to Academic Leadership (VITAL) program. It may help student veterans with enrolling in VA healthcare, memory issues, student veteran advocacy, PTSD, and more.
