Funding for Military Friendly Colleges in Wyoming
There are a few military friendly schools in Wyoming. In 2017, 20 Wyoming schools received Post 9/11 GI bill funds for over 900 students totaling over $4 million dollars.
There are six active programs offering benefits for veterans’ education. All of these can be used to help fund a college education.

The most-used benefit program is the Post 9/11 GI Bill. At Wyoming colleges, 82% of the beneficiaries used the Post 9/11 GI Bill to help fund their education.

Under the Yellow Ribbon Program, the colleges and the VA pay the tuition and mandatory fees not paid for by the GI Bill. The military friendly college in Wyoming was determined based on the total amount of Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits awarded in 2022 and 2023.
University of Wyoming (UW) is a military friendly school in Wyoming. In fact, it has over 240 students who receive GI Bill benefits. The Veterans Services Center provides a dedicated space for veterans to gather. There, you can study, relax, watch TV, and connect to other veterans who share experiences in common. Finally, UW has dedicated, full time staff to help veterans. They provide programs and advocacy for veterans’ interests and needs.
UW participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program. It offers an
unlimited number of students an unlimited max contribution per year. Under
the Yellow Ribbon Program, the colleges and the VA pay tuition and fees not
paid for by the GI Bill.
Veterans are eligible for transfer credit of military
training. The retention rate for full time students who receive military
benefits is 71%.
The state of Wyoming approves Laramie County Community College for veterans training and for those training under Dependents’ Educational Assistance. Further, LCCC offers a variety of services and support for military personnel.
As far as financial aid goes, eligible military connected learners could receive in-state tuition, GI Bill benefits and military tuition assistance. Scholarships may also be available to those who qualify.
On the social side, you could get involved on campus and connect with other military students. LCCC has a Student Veterans of America chapter which could provide a peer to peer network of veterans who attend the college. The SVA also coordinates other campus activities.
Casper College offers the opportunity for you to use VA education benefits. And, has some unique services.
The school is among only 40 schools across the country offering PAVE. The program connects new student veterans with student veterans who are trained as peer advisors. This could be a useful way to navigate college life, deal with issues, get referrals and support.
An on-site Veterans and Military Members Benefit Office is also available. You could ask the office to help you with enrollment as well as financial aid questions. They could also serve as a go-to for finding other kinds of resources and is there for active military, Veterans and their dependents.
At NWCCD, the Northern Wyoming Community College District Veteran Services Office is there to help military, veterans, or dependent students with questions about use of eligible VA benefits.
The NWCCD also partners with the Marna M. Kuehne Foundation to support military and veterans in attaining their education goals. Kuehne Foundation is the main source of funding for the Veteran Services Office on each campus. These funds support several scholarships for eligible military learners as well as day care assistance.
Northwest College offers programs for students interested in obtaining a two or four-year degree. Or, who plan to enter the workforce after graduation. Qualifying veterans could receive financial assistance to attend Northwest College through the GI Bill®
Western may be a perfect choice for veterans who want to get a degree when they return to civilian life. There are more than 63 degrees and 42 certificate programs to choose from and many offer online, on campus or evening class options. The school offers help to Veterans and qualifying military members who want to use VA education benefits for their studies.
Online learning is available at Western’s outreach centers in 12 towns throughout Southwestern Wyoming. The college was also the first in the state to se up a child care center on campus. There is also a Veterans club which may help you make connections.
Central Wyoming College offers various services and support for U.S. veterans. Along with the Financial Aid and veteran benefits, CWC admissions staff could help to apply. They could also set up an advising appointment with one of the school’s Success Coaches, to get started. CWC also provides counseling services, career services, disability support, and tutoring services to all of their students, free of charge.
Eastern Wyoming College is approved for use of Veterans Education Assistance Programs. Including Montgomery GI Bill and 9/11 GI Bill. In addition to VA benefits, veteran students could pursue federal student aid and scholarships. Both may be available to eligible applicants.
Cheeks Beauty Academy offers programs in barbering, cosmetology, hairstyling and instructor. The schools (there’s one in Colorado too), are VA-approved training institutions. As a result, eligible veterans as well as their dependents could access their benefits while attending.
